Memorandum of Understanding signed with Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry

On November 7, 2023, the Smart City Institute Japan (SCI-Japan) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Information Industry (III) of Taiwan during the Smart City Expo World Congress 2023 held in Barcelona, Spain. III is a non-governmental organization promoting research and development of advanced technologies in the field of smart cities.

Purpose of the MoU

Taiwan has been advancing technology development and implementation of smart cities in recent years, leveraging advanced information and communication technologies. III plays a crucial role in smart city-related technologies in Taiwan, and SCI-Japan will collaborate with III in various areas such as disseminating information on smart cities, collaborating in events, and fostering talent for the continued development of smart cities.

About the Institute for Information Industry (III):
III is a non-governmental organization established in 1979 through the joint efforts of public and private sectors with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of information industry in Taiwan. Its current mission is to promote information communication technology innovation and applications in Taiwan, and to assist in the development of the digital economy. III engages in research and development as well as talent development. It has overseas offices in Tokyo, Kuwait, and Chennai (India), and actively participates in collaborative projects with organizations abroad.

About the Smart City Expo World Congress:
The Smart City Expo World Congress is the world’s largest event focused on smart cities. Since 2011, it has been held annually in Barcelona, Spain. This event brings together government officials, businesses, and experts from around the globe for the exchange of information and ideas. In the 2023 edition, a total of 25,300 attendees from over 140 countries participated. Starting from the 2022 edition, SCI-Japan has been organizing the exhibition of the Japan Pavilion at the event.
